Health, Education
The Barkada Kontra Droga or BKD is aimed at preventing the dangers and destructive consequences that would result from drug abuse. Based on the principles of preventive education and information dissemination, the initiative of the BKD intends to address the problem of substance abuse by being empowered to become peer advocates of a healthy and drug-free lifestyle. The program encourages active involvement with wholesome and positive activities, thus instilling a sense of responsibility amongst the youth and communities that foster collective action. BKD acknowledges the importance of peer influence in shaping behavior and decision. It leverages this dynamic through the provision of knowledge, skills, and the confidence to serve as role models and agents for change. Such advocates, with their active engagement, can induce ripples throughout their social sphere, encouraging those around them to make wise choices and avoid damaging substances. All activities, including workshops, seminars, sports events, community outreach projects, and even music, arts, and theatre, are creative outlets for the energy, talent, and imagination of the young people, distracting them from any risky behavior but at the same time instilling camaraderie, self-discipline, and a sense of purpose. More so, BKD emphasizes collaboration with schools, barangays, and other organizations for a holistic approach to drug prevention. This multi-stakeholder approach amplifies the impact of the program to a network support system for both individuals and communities that strive towards a drug-free environment. It is more than just a program-the Barkada Kontra Droga is indeed a movement where youth power leads in securing futures for themselves, empowered through spreading awareness, having strength and determination, and achieving a positive way of living with BKD-a unison step forward in resistance to drugs in leading towards healthier and more powerful generations.
