Bicol University - Movement for the Advancement of Youth-led Advocacy (BU MADYA) is an advocacy-oriented, nonpartisan organization that is grounded in empowering young people to become active, socially responsible, and globally conscious citizens. Through its initiatives and advocacy platforms, it aims to provide a platform for the youth to engage in civic participation, deepen cultural awareness and appreciation, and encourage involvement in community and nation-building. In recognition of the national and local affairs, it purports to empower and mobilize the youth and community stakeholders to address pertinent issues through collaboration, education, and dialogue in any accessible and available advocacy platforms, guided by the Sustainable Development Goals in its programming. As an advocacy-oriented organization, BU MADYA delves into various advocacy platforms, programs, and projects anchored in our five foundational areas: culture and heritage, science and technology, education, social sciences, and digital strategies and communication. We foster and shape spaces within and outside the university with government and non-government collectives to empower the student community for discourse and action on pressing societal issues, and espouse a collaborative and active approach in contributing to solutions and interventions towards helping communities and society. Objectives: To promote shared values and sustainable development by aligning initiatives with global frameworks like the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while also supporting national development priorities and local community needs. To empower young people at the grassroots, regional, and national levels through inclusive education and intercultural understanding by providing platforms for learning, civic engagement, and cultural exchange in the fields of education, science, and culture. To cultivate active and socially responsible citizens by promoting awareness of human rights, social justice, and democratic values through participatory programs that encourage involvement in community and nation-building efforts. To build youth capacity across multiple levels of participation by engaging them in leadership development programs, conferences, advocacy campaigns, and skills training tailored to support their personal growth, creativity, and leadership roles in various sectors. To advance inclusive and lifelong learning by championing equitable access to quality education, digital literacy, and knowledge-sharing systems that serve both rural and urban communities and contribute to inclusive knowledge societies; To foster peace, cultural understanding, and ethical responsibility by promoting intercultural dialogue, respecting diversity, addressing ethical challenges, and encouraging collaboration across local and international communities; and, To strengthen university and community partnerships by supporting Bicol University’s Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives through initiatives that address pressing local issues such as environmental protection, climate action, sexual and reproductive health, and mental health and well-being.
