WASH in Schools (WinS) Program The Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in Schools (WinS) Program is a key initiative of the Department of Education (DepEd) that aims to improve access to safe water, functional sanitation facilities, and hygiene education in all public schools across the Philippines. The program promotes the health, dignity, and overall well-being of learners by institutionalizing effective hygiene practices and a safe learning environment. WinS emphasizes daily group handwashing with soap, proper toothbrushing with fluoride toothpaste, menstrual hygiene management, and regular facility maintenance. It is also aligned with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. The program is guided by DepEd Order No. 10, s. 2016 – Policy and Guidelines for the Comprehensive Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Schools (WinS) Program, which institutionalizes WinS in all public schools Inform/Involve and Inspire all members of the stakeholders Connect with both public and private partners for sustainability and for the implementation of the WinS Program Ensure correct knowledge and understanding among learners of effective hygiene and sanitation projects Integrate life skills acquisition on hygienic education and extend the practice to family, home and community. Ensure that schools are kept clean and safe through school-based solid waste management, proper drainage, the elimination for breeding grounds for mosquitoes to prevent vector-borne diseases and food sanitation Improve equitable access to safe water, adequate toilet and hand washing facilities
