Health, Education, Social Inclusion and Equity, Active Citizenship

The Asian Medical Students’ Association of West Visayas State University (AMSA-WVSU), re-instituted in 2000, is a college-based socio-civic organization and a Local Member Organization of AMSA-Philippines. It serves as a dynamic platform for medical students to engage in healthcare advocacy, medical education, and social justice, both within the university and in partner communities. Guided by the belief that health is a human right, AMSA-WVSU develops the “social eye” of future physicians by confronting health inequities through service, education, and action. The organization equips its members with leadership, empathy, and innovation by immersing them in community health work, health information and awareness campaigns, research, disaster and emergency response, student wellness initiatives, and culturally grounded local and international exchanges. AMSA-WVSU operates through six Standing Committees namely (1) Public Health, (2) Medical Education, (3) Human Rights and Peace, (4) Research Exchange, (5) Professional Exchange, and (6) Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights including HIV and AIDS —serving as the backbone of its programs and advocacies. Through sustained community engagement and student-led initiatives, AMSA-WVSU shapes compassionate, socially accountable, and globally minded physicians committed to strengthening healthcare systems and advancing equity for underserved populations.
