Aktibong Barkada Konta Droga is a youth-led organization dedicated to preventing drug abuse by strengthening positive peer influence in schools and communities. The name means “Active Barkada Against Drugs”, built on the belief that friends have the power to guide each other toward healthier choices. The group brings together students, out-of-school youth, and volunteers to run peer education sessions, advocacy caravans, sports leagues, clean-up drives, and skills workshops. Rather than relying on fear-based messaging, the organization promotes an active, supportive lifestyle that gives young people a sense of belonging and purpose. Activities are designed to be practical and relatable, covering topics like peer pressure, mental health, decision-making, and conflict resolution. By working closely with schools, barangay officials, and Sangguniang Kabataan, Aktibong Barkada Kontra Droga creates safe spaces where youth can learn, connect, and become role models for their peers. The organization also uses creative approaches such as music, art and sports to engage youth who might not respond to traditional lectures. The organization has five main objectives. First, it aims to prevent drug use through peer-led education that provides accurate, age-appropriate information and practical coping strategies. Second, it focuses on building resilience and life skills such as leadership, communication, and stress management, so members can resist peer pressure and make informed decisions. Third, it strengthens community involvement by partnering with local government and schools to organize events that keep youth engaged in productive activities. Fourth, it supports rehabilitation and reintegration by linking affected youth to proper counseling and reducing stigma within the community. Fifth, it fosters a culture of accountability where barkada members look out for one another and intervene early when someone is at risk. Through these efforts Aktibong Barkada Kontra Droga hopes to reduce substance abuse at the grassroots level while empowering youth to lead healthier lives and contribute actively to community development.
