Historical Background of the 4-H Club of the Philippines\r\n1900 – 4-H Club work started in the US with boys and girls interested in agriculture. \r\n1934 – Maria Y. Orosa, founder of the Home Extension in the Philippines, started to work with \r\nboys and girls interested in gardening and food preservation.\r\n1946 – The Agricultural Extension Division (AED) of the bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) organized \r\nthe 4W Program/Club.\r\n The 4Ws stood for: WILL, WELL-BEING, WORK, WISDOM\r\n1952 – RA No. 680 created the Bureau of Agricultural Extension (BAEx).\r\n - AED of BPI was transferred to BAEx.\r\n - The US granted the use of the name 4-H Club in the Philippines.\r\n - 4W Club assumed the name of 4-H Club which marked the start of 4-H Club in the \r\n - Philippines under the stewardship of BAEx.\r\nThe meaning of the 4 letter H\r\n4 letter H means developing:\r\n• HEAD - To think, plan and reason; to be innovative and creative\r\n• HANDS - To be caring, sharing, committed and civic-conscious \r\n• HEART - To be useful, skilful and serviceable \r\n• HEALTH -To enjoy life and participate actively in nation-building \r\nWhat is 4-H Club?\r\n➢ Is an organization of Out-of-School youth (OSY) & In-school youth (ISY) involved in \r\nagriculture programs and livelihood projects for the four-fold development of the HEAD, \r\nHEART, HANDS, and HEALTH.\r\n➢ Boys and girls from 10-30 years old, single \r\n➢ Engaged in farming and Agri-based income generating projects (IGPs). \r\n➢ Membership is open and voluntarily\r\n➢ Emphasizes community-based projects in agriculture and homemaking.\r\n➢ Is an avenue for farm family development.\r\nAims of 4-H Club\r\n➢ Provides opportunities to “LEARN BY DOING” \r\n➢ Enhances productivity and self-reliance \r\n➢ Instills spirit of volunteerism, cooperation and dignity of labor \r\n➢ Enables the youth to use their time, talents and energies wisely \r\n➢ Promotes fellowship, understanding and goodwill \r\n4-H CLUB SYMBOLS: EMBLEM AND COLOR \r\n4-H Motto:\r\n“To make the best better”\r\n4-H Slogan\r\n“Learn by doing
