The name ALUGYAW is a contraction of ALAMPAT, UGMOK, and SAYAW which means "Art of Dance in Ormoc". The group was founded last October of 2004. The original group was members of a cheerleading group, The Glacier Jaguars pep Squad which later adopted new forms, techniques, and genres in dance. ALUGYAW mainly focuses on culturist and naturalist types of Contemporary Dances. Although on some occasions the group performs other dances outside contemporary, the group is known for its unique and diverse performance.
