Hugyaw Youth Coalition is a youth-led coalition, composed of organizations across Western Visayas, focused on advancing meaningful participation of the youth in local governance and community-based programs in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The coalition is formed with the support of the Youth Leadership for Democracy Program (YouthLed) of The Asia Foundation and United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The coalition seeks to provide safe spaces for young people and organizations to collectively work on the pressing issues of the region through a shared rights-based approach in empowerment and grassroots integration in development. The coalition supports the following civic engagement frameworks: Youth in advocacy-driven community building Youth in Local Governance and Local Policy Making Youth in Grassroots Activism Youth in Policy Advocacy The coalition anchors itself in the rights-based approach of empowerment, whereas we highlight the key issues that stifle youth participation in the region through making the youth understand how injustices and oppression take part in their daily lives. Through this, we focus on protecting human rights especially the right to participate in a democracy. The coalition assisted in drafting the Western Visayas Youth Agenda and the Negros Occidental Youth and Children Agenda.
