The Penumbra is the Heracleo Casco Memorial National High School’s official student publication that aims to provide a platform for creative expression and intellectual discourse within the school community. It is also a training ground for writers, artists, and photographers in the practice of responsible journalism. “Penumbra” refers to the partially shaded outer region of a shadow which can be seen during an eclipse. This serves as a metaphorical connection with the goals of this organization which is to shed light on topics that may not always receive attention, and to provide space for diverse perspectives to coexist. Through this, students foster a sense of collaboration and community during the production of the publication, as well as cultivate leadership and teamwork skills among student editors, writers, photographers, and designers. The organization most importantly aims to create a publication that reflects the interest and concerns of the school community as vessels of information. Specifically, the organization is guided by these set of objectives: 1. To encourage and support students’ creativity and showcase their talent in writing. 2. To promote literacy and critical thinking by providing a forum or platform for students to express their opinions and ideas in various topic. 3. To foster a sense of community within the school.
