Environment
In compliance with Republic Act no. 9512, or the National Environmental Awareness and Education Act of 2008, the Department of Education (DepEd) issued DepEd Order No. 52, series of 2011 entitled “Strengthening Environmental Education in Public and Private Schools”. Later that year, it also issued DepEd Order No. 93, series of 2011 that provided the programs, projects and activities for the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) which is the only recognized school-based co-curricular organization established through DepEd Order no. 72, series of 2003. Upon its establishment it consolidated all other environmental and/or ecological organizations in schools with the primary programs or projects for the environment. YES-O will serve as a significant venue for students’ actions and movements towards safeguarding, protecting and conserving the environment. It is an organization that provides leadership in formulating policies and standards to collaborate individual and group effort for environment sustainability, encourage community participation and initiative in environmental and ecological movements and actions, and develop among members and the community proper environmental values, skills and attitudes.
