Health, Education

The UP Manila School of Health Sciences Tarlac Student Council as a student representative institution of barangay and Local Government Units’ nominated scholars from Region III and Region IV-A who are being trained to become future community health workers of their respective communities, commits itself to amplify the voices of the communities being represented by our student body on the issues of education, health and anti-poverty programs of the national government through our participation in the National Youth Commission. We believe as the student representative body of community scholars from Region III and Region IV-A, we will be able to contribute to the discussion on issues pertinent to anti-poverty programs and advocate and lobby to the national government and to the local governments to expand in investing on strengthening local health systems by creating and strengthening mechanisms and programs like development of community health workforce as an anti-poverty mechanism. We believe as our constituencies come from mostly from low-income, poor, and geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas, we can critically represent their views and concerns on the ground and bring these voices to the national level through the YORP the voice and advocate of the youth. We see this as a strategic opportunity as well to bring the plight of our fellow community scholars and to future community scholar nominees who needed further affirmative action on education and health programs of the national government, and local government units. We view this opportunity as a space for youth and student leaders from disadvantaged backgrounds to have the say to express their hopes and aspirations of change in their communities to the government, hoping that we can be heard and be supported towards genuine empowerment and development.
