Health, Environment

Unawa is a Filipino term that means “to understand” or “to empathize”. Unawa PH is a youth-led organization that aims to inculcate the values and significance of empathy to our community in order to raise awareness on various societal issues that involve environmental wellness through volunteerism. The organization firmly believes that instilling the art of empathy to the community will be the first step in creating an impact followed by change. As the province strives to recover from the devastating impact of the Marawi Siege, the province of Lanao continues to face challenges, including the shortage of sources of income, quality education, peace and order, environmental action, and health assistance. Out of all the aforementioned issues, livelihood, environment, and health sectors are observed areas that have no sustainable support. The importance of these issues is often neglected by the people and some officials in the province. A diverse group of advocate leaders who hold similar views on these issues has banded together to increase awareness and take concrete steps. Unawa PH was founded to generate sustainable and efficient solutions to address these prevalent issues and make a progressive change. The vision of the organization is to influence the youth to commit themselves to community service in order to spark change in marginalized communities. They aim to create localized positive social transformation through community engagements. The organization objectives is to develop innovative and sustainable programs grounded on raising awareness and providing solutions to certain issues relevant to environmental wellness and health; to support vulnerable communities by amplifying their voices through works of active volunteerism; and to highlight the importance of under-discussed social issues about the environment, health, and other social inequities by conducting community initiatives that tackle timely social challenges.
