Education

The book lovers club of Palawan National School is a school-based Club for students that are interested in books and literature. Originally set up to instill book love in students, the club works to help members develop interests that can include authors, topics of interest and even types of books. It is written in an open manner to all the students and it invites the reader to take part since it is believed that different people are interested in this topic. This club is a weekly assembly of students who read books and exchange ideas as well as feelings about the works’ topics and protagonists. Every month the club has a theme of a certain genre or the author and thus the members are introduced to the different parts of the world and view points. The talks are also characterized by certain practices which include creative writing, book-related games and special events with the participation of authors and related professionals from a given community. Apart from reading, the Book Lovers Club boasts of its responsibility in encouraging “Reading Across” within the school as well as in the broader society . The club collects books, carries out reading sessions, and fund-raising events and makes book donations to students and young children. It also holds other functions such as book fares, and competitions between schools making it the key component of the schools’ cultural / literary activity. Aided by inspiring teachers and backed up by students’ passion, the Book Lovers Club will help develop a sense of never ending reading and desire to learn more, as well as provide an opportunity for the students to communicate with like-minded people united by the love for literature.
