MRT Youth is a group of young people between the ages of 15 and 35. The goal of MRT Youth is to develop more leaders, and it strives to be the leading youth organization in the city of Himamaylan. MRT Youth has begun creating youth organizations at the sitio and city levels. Its founder and leaders want to establish a network within the city to assist all young people with issues facing their community by lobbying over their needs before officials of the city government. Additionally, reaching out to these youth will make it simpler for government organizations like Sangguniang Kabataan to carry out their projects and programs for the youth. Being a part of MRT Youth can help young people in gaining important interpersonal and personal skills, thanks to the variety of activities that are arranged as a group. These include the capacity for critical thought and problem-solving as well as the acceptance of individual and collective accountability. One of the highlights of MRT Youth would be its Health and Environmental Reserve Operations (HERO) Program, where young people come together to do volunteer work including clean-up drives, feeding programs, tree/mangrove planting activities, and many others. These young people’s self-confidence and self-worth have increased because of this program. They can come to realize that they can genuinely help others and have something valuable to contribute when they participate in the organization. Our organization give youth a “safe space” that they wouldn’t have otherwise a place where they can express themselves through programs and activities, or just by being able to talk openly with peers and caring leaders. It can help reduce the risk of becoming involved in MRT Youth Organization and its activities can be a protective factor to help young people to make healthy choices. Also, they can develop a “safe” identity, and are less likely to participate in unsafe activities to feel they belong. MRT Youth welcomes young people who want to feel included, who want to make friends, who want to participate in social events, who want to give back to society, and who are in need. Its founders and officers would always say, “We begin as friends and end as a family at MRT Youth”.
