What is Kabayani?

REVIVAL OF KABAYANI PROGRAM

“Kabayani” was first adopted as a program title by NYC in 2014. The program was initially designed to help NYC in gathering data for the Abot-Alam program. Abot Alam is a collective effort of national government agencies, local government units, civil society organizations, the private sector and community-based groups, under the leadership of the Department of Education and the National Youth Commission that aimed to map out all the out-of-school-youth (OSY) in the country and matched them with appropriate government or civil society programs that can give them opportunities for education, employment, and entrepreneurship.

The Kabayani program also launched a website which aimed to boost youth participation in volunteer activities through the use of internet. It aimed to provide a bigger avenue for potential youth volunteers to be active movers of this nation by promoting volunteerism in a more accessible way.

After having been left behind for a couple of years, the National Youth Commission decided to revive the Kabayani program. It’s revival meant the redefinition of its purpose and reach. Now, NYC sees the proposed KABAYANI as an umbrella program that will connect the Commission’s YORP and NYVP, to re-introduce their extended version, and set the standard guidelines to efficiently manage the connection NYC has with Youth organizations and volunteers.
