YOUTH ENVIRONMENTAL MOVEMENT: A COASTAL CLEANUP DRIVE

Since many of us would notice that our options are limited due to COVID constraints, there are still certain clean-up initiatives in which we can participate. This form of intervention has the potential to improve the environment. As we already know, constant environmental stewardship will assist in building and preserving aquatic organisms. It is also one approach to mitigate climate change, and environmental consciousness will undoubtedly aid and enrich coming generations.

The KANNAWAY DANCE TROUPE undertook and coordinated a coastline clean-up initiative to promote environmental legislation in collaboration with the National Youth Commission. Spending the time to collect debris such as straws, polymers, and other waste has proven to benefit both humans and marine organisms.

Kannaway Dance Troupe members were subdivided into seven (7) groups and assigned to several municipalities for a clean-up drive on September 18, 2021. This cleanup took place in Isabela, notably in the towns of San Pablo, Cabagan, Sta. Maria, Sto. Tomas, Delfin Albano, Tumauini, and Ilagan. The engagement was successful because of collaboration with various organizations such as each municipality’s Municipal Environment and Natural Resources, SK Federations, and LGUs.

As a result, the goal of this action is to involve the youths in changing their practices that result in polluting bodies of water. As youth groups, our vision is to encourage, motivate, and mobilize a multigenerational social movement to pursue good environmental change.
